Colsterworth Festival of Remembrance
People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
We would like to support the restoration and maintenance of the village war memorial which brings the community together for participation in events and joint projects.

About this cause
We began as a voluntary group organising the annual Armistice Day Parade. This has grown into a successful community event bringing everyone together at the war memorial in Colsterworth on Remembrance Sunday, which is followed by a social event. The long-term aims of the group are to bring together and foster understanding of the military community past and present in Colsterworth District by promoting events, mutual support and fundraising involving the whole community. The war memorial is central to these activities and ongoing maintenance work is required.
How this cause brings people in the community together
In partnership with the Parish Council, this application supports a much bigger restoration project of the war memorial and encourages the community to get involved, regardless of background or ability. It promotes a sense of pride and wellbeing in the heritage of the village and encourages voluntary work of all kinds, from crafting groups, fundraising, maintaining the gardens around the memorial, stewarding and participating in Remembrance Day and other associated social events. The project provides an opportunity to acknowledge the armed forces community, past and present, recognising and remembering the sacrifices made.
