South Gower Rugby Football Club
People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
Our clubhouse is in need of upgrading to enhance our services to the wider community. We wish to raise funds to build better disability access to the clubhouse as part of our 50th anniversary.
About this cause
As a club we are at the heart of the local community. We have the largest junior rugby section in the Swansea district with teams for U6s up to U16s alongside our youth and senior teams. We also open the clubhouse to both members and non-members for social functions. Unfortunately, our clubhouse is in dire need of upgrading and maintenance to be able to fulfil our services to the wider community; we are trying to raise funds to enable us to build extensions as part of our 50th anniversary. We provide our pitches to other teams whose players have varying disabilities and wish to utilise our changing rooms and utilities as they don't have a club of their own. Therefore, our service to both local and further communities is far reaching.
How this cause brings people in the community together
This project will enable us to continue providing facilities through our central hub, where we help young, old, and groups with mental, learning and physical health disabilities feel empowered and part of a community. Social interaction for all genders, races and ages is important to the community, and we provide a venue not just for rugby but other sports including archery, charity runs and other events that raise money for charities such as the Wales Air Ambulance. Our coaches and staff provide a safe, team building and nurturing environment for all and have been part of the community since 1974. We are able to provide youngsters with activities, team camaraderie and a focus to empower them in a rural area where they don't have access to many other activities.
