We provide support to people living with dementia and their families across the Isle of Lewis and Harris. All of the community activities we organise are funded through fundraised income - something we could not survive without. Activities which we currently run include, a monthly singing group, walking group, gardening group, and various rural Dementia Cafes and drop ins for carers across the length and breadth of the Isle of Lewis/Harris. These activities benefit many people in many ways, as everyone has a different dementia journey. The peer activities we organise - such as the singing group/walking group, might be the only opportunity that someone living with dementia has to interact with people and connect to their local community, and who may otherwise become isolated.
Any money we receive will sustain existing activities & build on our expanding volunteer base to allow 1-1 support for people living with dementia. We run as many different activities and groups as we possibly can,to allow maximisation of social inclusion for those living with dementia & their families. We currently run a singing group, walking group, gardening group & various dementia cafes. The dementia cafes are a unique setting for people suffering from dementia & their carers to meet informally & get support from each other.Going forward we would love to develop more sport related activities,e.g using the local gym & a snooker club to encourage more male participants to attend our activities. We've had lots of interest from young volunteers who we hope could help run these new activities.
