People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing

We've been playing brass instruments in Woodhouse for 170 years. We would like to update some of our kit so we can continue to teach and entertain local people through our music.

About this cause

We teach music and the playing of brass instruments to any person of any age or ability wishing to learn. We encourage young people to participate in such musical activities by providing the band framework, which will both stimulate and educate through practical experience in a safeguarded environment. We also actively support the local communities and charities through a series of performances and events throughout the year.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We offer a welcoming environment to players of all ages and abilities. We encourage the recruitment of new players with tuition and the loan of an instrument, all free of charge. We have members aged from 10 to 90 and love that the age gap is connected by music. The fantastic support between players helps build confidence and friendships. For people who live alone, band practice twice a week is a really important chance to socialise as well as helping our mental wellbeing. We look upon the band as our second family. As a band we have fun making music and enjoy sharing this with many audiences in schools, churches, bandstands, retirement villages, fetes and weddings, also supporting charities such as MND and the veterans. As we mark our 170th year, we would love your support.
