People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
We will provide counselling, where we ask only for a donation, making it accessible. Our service is long-established in Sedgemoor and we leave no person behind. If you need support we are here.
About this cause
Our main aim is to help people develop the courage and skills to overcome challenges so that they can live a fulfilled life. To do this, we promote positive mental health by increasing accessibility to therapeutic support and education. We support the most vulnerable people with counselling, including those in rural locations. We promote community integration through free community events. Our core service is the provision of community counselling, where we ask only for a donation, making it accessible. We educate through lived-experience volunteer-led workshops, which are run free of charge at local schools. We connect the community through free social events, such as coffee mornings and quiz nights. The current mayor has nominated us as one of her charities of the year.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Some common positive outcomes for our clients across Sedgemoor from our support are: entering employment; ending or changing behaviour in abusive or unhealthy relationships; strengthening relationships; abstaining from compulsive behaviour, e.g. substance abuse, gambling or shopping addiction; using rational thinking techniques in daily life; gaining the confidence to explore new social situations; broadening social and supportive networks; increased social and community engagement; and bringing together isolated communities through our community engagement programmes and events. We anticipate a significant increase in clients reporting better self-esteem, tools to manage loneliness and isolation and overall wellbeing.
