About this cause

We provide mental health/wellbeing support and guidance, services, activities/training for the local community. We deliver a quality mental health service for people to access in order to improve their mental/physical health and to foster skills and confidence needed to re-engage with other community resources. Timely access to a diverse range of non-judgemental/supportive mental health services can improve well-being/quality of life; we aim to increase an individual’s independence/personal dignity to enable them to make a positive contribution to their own recovery/improved quality of life. . Current activities include: counselling, alternative therapies, telephone support, therapeutic group work, an open referral system, psycho-educational sessions, training and volunteering.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We would like to deliver a programme of healthy lifestyle activities to people of all ages from the Washington/Coalfields areas of Sunderland who are experiencing, or who are at risk of developing, mental ill health/emotional distress to improve their physical and mental health/wellbeing. Mental health impacts on physical health and vice versa; for this project, we will provide the following: Healthy Life Activities – Cycling and Walking Social support groups Healthy Cooking Eating sessions Arts and Crafts Creative Arts These sessions will enable people to; make positive health changes so that they can enjoy healthier lives, increase social interaction, and increase their self-confidence so that the risk of them becoming disengaged/socially isolated will be reduced.
