About this cause

We are Ashington Sea Cadets and part of the UK's oldest nautical youth charity, the unit is based in Northumberland. The ages of the cadets range from 10 years to 18 years, once they turn 18 they can then train to become staff. As a Cadet you can go to sea, learn to sail and do adventure training and gain extra skills to give the cadets a great head start in life. Our main purpose is to celebrate Britain's maritime heritage and contribute to it's future development by supporting young people as Cadets. We want to help young people build confidence in their own abilities as they learn to work as part of a team, by offering a range of social and educational opportunities. This sets the Cadets up for their future careers, it gives them confidence to go forward with their chosen pathway.

How this cause brings people in the community together

It benefits the community by keeping the cadets safe, teaching the cadets sailing skills, working as a team. This can prepare the cadets for now and later in life as well as helping them achieve their potential by offering a range of social and educational opportunities. The cadets come from different backgrounds and abilities. We aim to give the cadets the best training and life skills we can. These can be taken forward when they are older in helping them with job opportunities. The cadets range from the ages of 10 to 18. Our qualified instructors guide young cadets so that they can flourish in challenging environments safely. They are the only organisation from the forces that receive no funding from the government and have to raise their own funding.
