Walk and Talk
People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
The funding will pay for the walk leader's time, advertising the walks, parking at Itchen Valley Country Park, and for refreshments after the walk where a lot of the social interaction takes place.

About this cause
We're a group who aim to improve mental wellbeing by getting people together on a regular basis for a 'walk and talk' in the countryside. The walks were started as a response to the isolation experienced by many during COVID-19 lockdowns. There are 16 places on each walk to keep the group small and sociable. The walks are advertised to all Eastleigh residents and also MIND and One Community.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The project provides social interaction for people who need it. Feedback has shown that 60 per cent joined to meet new people and 40 per cent joined to improve their mental health. The walks have created friendships and developed confidence in people to go out walking elsewhere. The mental and physical health benefits are sustained and will result in healthier, happier residents.
