Tavistock Community Sensory Garden
People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
We will build new raised beds to showcase the variety of fruit and vegetables that families can grow for themselves to achieve a healthy diet whilst at the same time reducing their food costs.
About this cause
We provide a sensory garden experience to the local community. Our aim is to encourage people of all ages and from all backgrounds to have the opportunity to enjoy the pleasures of the natural environment for the benefit of their health and wellbeing, and in particular for children to experience each of the senses, e.g., touch, taste, smell, sound and sight, in a peaceful outdoor setting.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Expanding the space for fruit and vegetables will provide the opportunity for more people to experience the benefits of freshly grown produce and gain an appreciation of what can be achieved in a relatively small area equivalent to that of a domestic garden. Volunteers will be on hand on a regular basis to answer questions on propagation and the suitability of various plants.
