About the Project
The Chantry is used by numerous groups who have a real connection to the building. The rooms that are used are in need of updating. many of the lights are the early style strip lights that create an unnatural glare. We would like to replace the old style with lights that are more in keeping with the building. This will benefit the users of all the rooms. We have a Well Being group that meet on a regular basis. They have asked if they can help with the redesign of the room they use. They feel that it will improve their experience greatly. In the Main building that dates back to Tudor times, the lighting again is in need of replacing. These rooms are used by community groups and also meeting rooms for local groups, for example, Thornbury Football Club, Chess Meetings, Duke of Edinburgh.
About the Charity
The Chantry is a Community Centre open 52 weeks of the year offering room hire at affordable rates for local groups. The Centre is used by all ages and different groups that live in Thornbury and surrounding areas. Most of the room hiring are at a substantial discount on full commercial rates, and it is fair to assume that many of these groups, which are essential to a vibrant community, would not be viable without this. It is estimated that overall, at least 95 percent of the hiring have a large element of public benefit.
