Friends of The Royal Marsden, Chelsea
People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
We would like to tend, nurture and improve the hospital garden, which provides an oasis of calm away from the clinical areas. This benefits patients, carers and staff.
About this cause
We support The Royal Marsden, Chelsea through volunteering and fundraising for the benefit of patients, their carers and staff. In 2019, we were awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, the equivalent of an MBE, and the highest award given to charities in the UK.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The hospital garden is like an oasis in the middle of a very busy, London hospital, which is dedicated to improving the lives of patients with cancer. The garden is cared for and nurtured by volunteers, who ensure there is a haven to retreat to all year round. The space is used by patients, carers, visitors and staff, all of whom appreciate the environment as a safe, calming space.
