About this cause

Our primary goal is to provide personalised transport for cancer patients from Arran. Our volunteer drivers take them from Ardrossan ferry terminal to mainland hospitals for their cancer treatment and return them to the ferry. Cancer treatment makes people feel very ill and using public transport for these journeys would be an added burden. Surplus funds are used to provide equipment to local surgeries and community nurses to improve cancer diagnosis and assist in nursing patients in their own homes. We also support Ayrshire Hospice with syringe pumps and other items of equipment and have funded various courses at Maggie's Centre in Glasgow to improve the lives of cancer patients.

How this cause brings people in the community together

ArCaS is available to all residents on the Isle of Arran who have been sent for cancer diagnosis and or treatment. Patient confidentiality is strictly maintained at all times and all services are free to the user. The number of people having cancer is increasing and so more demand is being made on our drivers. We now have 10 where a few years ago, five were sufficient. So we need to make sure that the funding is available to continue with this much appreciated service.
