Autism Parents Together (Tees Valley)

Mental wellbeing

We'd like to organise events in our community that autistic children and young people can access. Our events include climbing, soft play, swimming, fishing, pottery, cookery and much more.

About this cause

The overall goal of our charity is to improve social inclusion of children, young people and families in our area that are diagnosed with autism, including those on the pathway to a diagnosis. Siblings are also included; this avoids isolation of other family members too. Parents and carers stay at the events and this in turn makes them feel part of a community, reducing social isolation.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Families that are part of our charity experience social exclusion – this can be the autistic children/young person, their siblings and parents. Days out and attending mainstream sessions such as swimming, gaming and soft play can prove to be overwhelming, but having smaller, exclusive, events where adjustments have been made to make the event 'autism friendly' enables families to be included.
