About this cause
Heslington Pre-School exists to enhance the development and education of children under statutory school age by offering appropriate play, education and care facilities. Children attending the pre-school are aged between 3 and 5 and we have an early starters and toddlers group for 0-3 year-olds. Serving children and families from Heslington, Fulford, Badger Hill and Osbaldwick, the pre-school also has children attending from throughout the city of York whose parents (from all over the world) work and study at the University of York. In these critical early years of a child's life, the dedicated and highly-qualified staff provide a friendly and fun learning environment that provides a wonderful foundation of learning that the children take with them into their school years.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The pre-school has recently moved in to temporary accommodation - and a new building is still some years off. The children's outdoor area has been created by a team of volunteers that has made the area safe, secure and usable - but it has a lack of facilities. Installing a playhouse with a slide will add a real focus for the children, allowing them to explore, climb and play together on appropriately sized equipment - enhancing their social skills and promoting active and healthy play. It will give the temporary facilities a real wow-factor for the children. The facilities will benefit the children from the pre-school and also children who attend the school's after school club. Importantly, the equipment can be re-positioned to a new site in the future.
