About this cause

Streetlife works with 400+ different vulnerable young people 16-25 either homeless or at risk of homelessness. We have an emergency night shelter providing a safe, warm, friendly place to stay and we also provide follow on support. Our day centre offers counselling, well-being activities, one-to-one intensive support, advocacy work, life Skill sessions, drop-in, cook and eat, food/toiletry parcels and more. We help young people address their situation, make positive decisions and develop skills to more on with a productive life. Streetlife is located in Blackpool town centre and we are the only organisation providing emergency shelter across the Fylde coast. We rely totally on charitable donations and grants as we do not receive any funding from the local authority or central government.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The shelter provides emergency accommodation for young people who have nowhere to turn. Streetlife helps them to be safe from exploitation, abuse, crime and rough sleeping. Streetlife provides a holistic service catered to each individual's needs. This includes essential support with mental health, physical and sexual health, financial issues, benefit advice, training and employment support. The main reason for homelessness is family breakdown followed by mental health issues. Streetlife helps young people to deal with emotional issues, gain in confidence, develop skills to help themselves as well as providing a friendly supportive environment. The shelter has eight beds and is open 7 days a week, next to St John's Church in Blackpool and it is open from 7pm - 9am.
