About this cause

Lavendon Village Hall serves the local community by accommodating a variety of events of wide interest to local residents and visitors alike. Users of the hall include those who are retired, have limited mobility, or are less able to venture out and enjoy social and community events elsewhere. The Hall caters for all age groups, eg for dance, exercise, general entertainment, music and talks, or other events; it is available for family, public or private hire, such as children’s parties, anniversaries, wakes, etc. Hire charges are kept at the minimum necessary to cover carefully managed maintenance and utility costs. However, any improvements to the Hall are necessarily achieved through a lively programme of fund-raising events and activities organised by the Hall's Management Committee.

How this cause brings people in the community together

In recent years the local community has generously donated time and money to help improve and expand upon the Hall facilities. This self-help work is ongoing and so far has included the installation of a new boiler room and heating, new toilets (including disabled and baby-changing facilities), new disabled access, wall insulation, double glazing and new kitchen facilities. The next phase of project work aims in particular to progressively install improved lighting and audio-visual systems so that the local community, especially including the hard of hearing or those who perhaps feel socially isolated, can more readily benefit from a variety of communal and family activities such as amateur stage productions, dance, or the live streaming of film, theatre, sport and other national events.
