People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
We would like to buy equipment to enable more people to take part in star gazing. People with mobility issues struggle to use telescopes and others struggle to look through traditional eye pieces.
About this cause
We welcome everyone interested in astronomy. From novice to expert, we aim to be a society for amateur astronomers who want to learn more. We hold public stargazing events, run a young astronomers club, work with schools and youth groups, and hold monthly talks. For members, we hold astronomy workshops and share knowledge at our observatory. We work with children and adults of all ages.

How this cause brings people in the community together
People with mobility issues and small children find it difficult to look through telescopes. People with visual impairments find it hard to see the same detail as the sighted. Lack of access is particularly distressing to those who used to enjoy astronomy. The right technology and adaptions will enable them to participate and they will no longer be excluded from fully enjoying the night sky.
