About this cause

St Peter's is an Anglican Church built in 1843. We currently have a group called Coffee Pot for pre school age children and their carers, over 80 children a week come along to play, their parents and carers find friendship and support amongst our team of volunteers. We have a small group for mothers of pre-schoolers where we run courses linked with Care for the Family. We also work closely with St Peter's Primary School, members of our congregation help with reading and we have special cafe style services. We also run a group for the elderly where they can come for tea, cake, activities, friendship and fun. On Sundays we have a group for children and for teenagers where they find friendship and fun.

How this cause brings people in the community together

On the overall deprivation scale, where 1 is the least deprived, our parish ranks 135 out of 165 in the Bristol Diocese. 22% of all children in this parish live in poverty, with 30% living in a one parent family. Our aim is to open an advice room offering courses on money, debt, jobseekers, bereavement support and family support. The local primary school are keen to be involved to help build community. Our first aim is to start a Job Club in partnership with Christians Against Poverty to help long term unemployed, we are also keen to partner with Care for the Family to provide help and support for families.
