About this cause

We are a local registered charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee registered in England & Wales. We provide home based respite breaks to support unpaid carers who care for a relative or a friend with chronic physical and/or mental health conditions living in Wokingham Borough since 1994. Our care workers take over carers’ roles to give them a break from caring. We also provide meaningful activities to people with care needs, e.g. dementia, to enhance their quality of lives. Our work gives carers a life beyond caring, reduces stress & isolation, improve well-being, prevent family breakdown, reduce health inequality. For people with care needs, we help them to be in control, maintain dignity; to stay in their own homes for as long as practicable and be part of the local community.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The aim of the project is for the care workers to use the resource pack to provide people with dementia a meaningful day regardless of their level of dementia. Care workers will use the pack to jolt their memory in the past and link to the present, where possible, while at the same time, stimulating their 5 senses and brain functions. Project outcomes- • Carers will have peace of mind when they enjoy the breaks knowing their cared for people with dementia will also have enjoyable time with our care workers. • Enhance the quality of life of people with dementia & enjoy staying in their own homes. • Reduce primary & secondary health and community care costs.• Be part of the local Dementia Friendly Community. • Stimulate the sales of dementia materials and contribute to the economy.
