About this cause

Ignite works with young people aged 13-24 in Harrow, to see long-term transformation in the lives of those who are at-risk or disadvantaged, through: offering programmes to engage young people; equipping young people with tools, resources and opportunities to make positive choices; raising future expectations to transform lives for the long-term. We deliver 19 weekly projects including specialised services for those involved in gangs, vulnerable young females, young people who are not in education, employment or training, and 1:1 mentoring. Outcomes achieved over the past year include: 299 young people re-engaged/increased engagement in education/employment; 461 young people increased self-efficacy; 171 young people increased social cohesion; 128 young people reduced anti-social behaviour.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Ignite propose to deliver a weekly youth group of positive activities in Wealdstone for young people involved or on the fringe of involvement in gangs and criminal activity, and those with low self-esteem/confidence. Each session includes 3 main sections: sports and social time; food; and life skills sessions. Activities are intended to encourage positive behaviour, improve fitness, develop mutual respect, enhance community cohesion, break down cultural barriers and encourage young people to consider their life choices. Sessions aim to deliver benefits including: opportunities for personal and social development; increased community cohesion and positive friendships amongst different groups of young people; and reduced youth anti-social and aggressive behaviour.
