Young Carers: The Carers Centre for Brighton and Hove

We would like to fund a series of fun cookery sessions for each of our age groups that teaches them to make affordable meals, and enjoy making and eating food as a group.
About this cause
The Brighton Young Carers Project supports young people in Brighton and Hove who are caring for a family member with an illness, disability or substance misuse problem. These are children aged six to 17, who are taking on household roles that are beyond what would be expected of someone their age. This includes physical care, personal care and emotional care - we aim to reduce the impact of these roles.

How this cause brings people in the community together
Cooking together and sharing meals is a healing and happy process. Cookery workshops help our young people to become more confident in their skills, look after and value themselves and their wellbeing, and to understand how to eat well on a budget. It also improves mental wellbeing as they laugh and joke with friends, enjoying a shared experience.
