About this cause

Little Angel Theatre is one of three purpose-built puppet theatres in England. We are situated in the fifth most deprived London borough, with 43% of children living in poverty. Islington is the most polarised borough in London. We are in a great position to take advantage of this by providing services for wealthier members of the community, in order to provide for the less wealthy – ultimately working to bridging this gap. This year over 4500 people took part in our education and outreach activities, and over £5000 of free tickets and workshop places were provided through our Puppets For All scheme. Our new studio space allows us to run a wide range of community activities including a teenage parents groups, projects with North London Cares, and an Autistic Theatre group.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Our Puppets For All scheme seeks to provide free tickets and workshop places to disadvantaged local children. This is more than just a “nice day out”. It is part of our broader strategy to engage with the community where Little Angel is based, ensuring that all members of the community feel welcome, particularly those that might not see the arts as relevant to their lives or a luxury they cannot afford. We continue to develop our relationship with the Puppets For All scheme participants after they have attended a show, offering them free places on future activities such as our Youth Theatre. Monitoring & Evaluation is built into the scheme: we have regular contact with organisations who connect us with beneficiaries, as they get the most direct & honest feedback.
