We would like to continue using the Downham Matters Corner Garden and other small green public spaces to grow food. This will be given to locals who do not have access to fresh, organic vegetables.
About this cause
Downham Matters is group which wants to create awareness of, campaign on and make improvements to the environmental, community and safety issues that affect Downham. We foster community goodwill and encourage the involvement of the wider community. We foster community spirit and encourage civic pride. Our primary aim is to make Downham a more environmentally friendly and self-sufficient area.
How this cause brings people in the community together
This project will encourage community pride in the local area. When volunteers are gardening in the corner areas, passers-by frequently express interest and discuss how environmental issues apply specifically to their lives and to Downham. Donations of produce also benefits local people living in food poverty.
