About this cause

Sedbergh a registered charity, was founded in 1906 to work with deprived children in the industrial North of England. We are currently in our fourth building as we outgrew the others and since 1962 are in a purpose built community centre in the Odsal area of Bradford. The clients we work with range from a few months old to 100 years with activities ranging from Parent and toddler groups, youth club, school holiday activity schemes, boxing, a carers group and a young at heart older adult group. We do this by providing the activities at an affordable and accessible price that meets our clients needs. Our youth group meets every Tuesday evening and take part in activities such as arts & crafts, various sports, discussion groups and free play in a safe, supportive children friendly environment

How this cause brings people in the community together

This youth activity group enables young people to take part in various social activities in a safe supervised environment. We currently work with young people from 6 years to 13 years. We have taken this decision as Bradford Youth Service do not work with this age group and we have therefore avoided duplication of services available in the area. Our Youth club is open to everyone in the district and we work with the local authorities, social services providing structured activities for children in local authority care. We will use the funding to pay for qualified seasonal staff who will supervise the young people and instruct our volunteers to a professional standard and further enhance their opportunities and transferable skills to take with them in their future careers.
