Friends Of Hopetoun Crescent Garden
People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
Our project would engage the local community into environmental learning/physical activities to restore the central area of the garden, including planting bulbs, raking and building bug hotels.

About this cause
Our aim is to regenerate the gardens' central area following increased footfall damage during the lockdown, creating learning and sensorial opportunities. The group helps maintain the gardens in collaboration with Edinburgh City Council; holds annual garden parties for the friends of HCG; liaises with schools for outdoor learning projects; and holds talks on environmental issues.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Through already existing networks, we aim to reach out to local primary schools, homeless/community groups and university students; engaging them into structured learning activities to understand the natural world, promote biodiversity and make local green spaces accessible to everyone. Project outcomes will be celebrated within our yearly celebratory event, also opened to local residents.
