Weaste Allotments and Gardening Association

We aim to improve the lives of older members of our community by creating easy access plots on derelict land so that they can continue to grow food.

About this cause
Our roots go back to 1917. As well as individual growers we have plots cultivated by groups such as Salford Food Parcels and a men’s group. We tend our own chickens and bees and run a garden shop which is open to all on Sunday mornings. We aim to continue to thrive and develop as a community, evolving as needs change to provide a place to grow, improving lives in Salford.
How this cause brings people in the community together
We believe that growing food is of huge benefit to mental health, and growing vegetables should be available to all, no matter what their age. Our aim is to continue to improve our older community’s lives by accommodating their changing needs with a new place to grow produce, thereby promoting good eating, helping to reduce loneliness and isolation, and improving mobility.
