We plan to redistribute good, surplus food from supermarkets, free to our local community, supporting families and reducing food waste.
About this cause
In May 2021, St Mary's Pickersleigh set up a Community Fridge. We want to help reduce food waste by redistributing good, surplus food from supermarkets, free to our local community. Currently, on two days a week, local people can come along and help themselves, free of charge, to the surplus food collected from the three local Co-op stores the night before.
How this cause brings people in the community together
By visiting the Community Fridge, not only will people be able to take away food for free, but they will be able to chat to the volunteers and see other activities that are going on at St Mary's including the Friday Community Cafe where table service is provided and tea and toast cost £1. As the Community Fridge expands it will become a hub for a variety of accessible community activities.
