About the Project
The new Turkish Baths suite will be open for use by the local community and also visitors to Manchester, meaning that part of our Grade II* listed building will be used again for its original purpose: health and wellbeing, in an area where some groups suffer significantly poorer health than the national average. Jobs will be created during the restoration and to staff the Turkish Baths. Victoria Baths Trust has appointed "Fusion Lifestyle" to help restore and run the Turkish Baths for us, who have a track record of running community leisure facilities. Victoria Baths is successful as a heritage visitor attraction and events venue, but to properly maintain and restore the 110-year old building the Trust desperately needs a more regular income, which this project will provide.
About the Charity
Victoria Baths is a Grade II* listed building in Manchester, opened in 1906 with three swimming pools, private baths and a Turkish Baths suite. After closure in 1993, a group of local residents formed a charitable trust in order to save Victoria Baths for the public. The Trust has achieved the partial restoration of the building and now runs it as a heritage visitor attraction and events venue. We are now raising funds for Phase 2 of our restoration, which includes re-opening the beautiful Turkish Baths for the public to enjoy throughout the year and restoring the former Superintendent’s Flat into rental apartments . Both projects will provide a much-needed regular income to Victoria Baths Trust and provide new health and well-being facilities for the local community in Ardwick.
