About this cause

Seaton Sluice Community Centre is the central hub of village life in Seaton Sluice. The centre is run by a volunteer Management Committee and 30 other volunteers. It has no paid staff except a cleaner .We run over 40 clubs from Archaeology to Spanish, from parents and toddlers to youth club. We have a thriving luncheon club and IT Drop in for 060`s. The centre also hosts the local library 12 hours a week. Before the centre can open its doors , it has to raise £ 14000 per year to pay for insurances ,heating ,lighting, licences and the maintenance of boilers, fire alarm, emergency lighting and CCTV systems. Because we now own the buildings we have to constantly raise funds for repairs, maintenance and upgrading the fabric. Our priority for 2017 is to be fully accessible to wheelchairs.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Our priority in 2017 is to make our centre fully accessible to wheelchair and our elderly users. We particularly want to put a ramp into the rear communal garden so that our users can access and enjoy this area in the summer. Making the centre more accessible will benefit the whole of the Seaton Slice Community. Over 1800 householders and visitors will benefit from any funds made available.
