Social Inclusion
Help us create a film based around mental and emotional health issues identified by young people as being the greatest cause of concern.
About this cause
We work with young people, many targeted and vulnerable. We create positive opportunities for participation through community and social action projects. We truly believe that the biggest barrier to fully participating within their community is the lack of belief that they can! We work primarily in SE Northumberland and are based in Bedlington. Having already completed various social action projects including Plessey Woods Art Trail we have seen some of the targeted young people returning with their friends demonstrating the confidence to feel ownership of their community. The community benefit from being offered more opportunities supplied by these young people, an enhanced environment and ultimately investing in these young people means investing in the community's future.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Last year 14,000 young people with emotional and health issues were referred to support services but only 4,000 were supported which is an alarming statistic! In a recent youth consultation with Primary Health Care emotional health needs was flagged as the area of most concern. Anti-social behaviour is often just a symptom of boredom making bad choices due to their lack of self-belief and knowledge/skills to make more informed choices. Creating aspirations for young people is a big protective factor for positive mental health. Becoming involved in this film will not only increase knowledge and understanding of emotional health but also serve to help young people to help themselves as young people support the more vulnerable youth.
