Irlam and Cadishead Healthy Heart Club
Social Inclusion
We want to provide activities at the club such as exercise, tai chi, reiki and stress management with the aim of reducing social isolation.
About this cause
Salford Heart Care is an independent charity. We exist to improve the health & wellbeing of older people in Salford through peer-to-peer support. Our objective is “to provide relief & support for individuals & carers in their recovery & rehabilitation from illness & long-term conditions.” We aim to prevent heart disease/heart attacks, reduce social isolation, improve health & wellbeing, provide after care for people with heart conditions & long-term illnesses, & reduce the risk of further heart attacks. We provide support through our "Healthy Heart Clubs" - offering a range of activities to promote wellbeing including gentle exercise, tai chi, relaxation, holistic therapies & healthy living advice. The clubs are a good source of social support for those feeling lonely or isolated.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The funds will help provide activities at our Irlam-based club: exercise, tai chi, relaxation & reiki therapies. The club is very popular - meeting twice weekly, currently supporting more than 100 local older people living with long-term health conditions (females & males aged 65+). The Coordinator of Salford Heart Care runs the sessions with help from a team of 15 volunteers. It will benefit the community by providing older people with access to social support to reduce feelings of loneliness & isolation. They will become more physically active which will help to reduce the risk of falls, strokes & heart attacks. They will gain a better understanding of how stress & anxiety can affect their mental health & emotional wellbeing & can learn coping strategies which can lower blood pressure.
