People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
We would like to continue to provide blind and sight-impaired people with free recordings of news from the local Borders papers, sent to their homes every week.
About this cause
We provide free weekly recordings of Borders local newspapers, delivered to the homes of people unable to read due to partial or total lack of sight. Our listeners are also mostly over 75, with age-related sight impairment.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our listeners, mostly elderly, isolated and with poor sight, are kept up to date with events in their local community. We rely on around 70 volunteers to read and record this weekly news. Most are retired and being part of the Talking Newspaper helps them feel part of their community.
