The Grantham Canal Society
Mental wellbeing
We aim to provide an amenity for people who enjoy wildlife, running, walking, cycling, canoeing, paddle boarding, boating, volunteering, and a place for the general improvement of mental wellbeing.
About this cause
By using volunteers to restore the canal from Grantham to Nottingham, we will make a haven for exercise, relaxation and the promotion of general wellbeing for all. We organise volunteers to clear vegetation from the canal and towpaths, provide boat trips, events, fundraising and educational school trips, as well as rebuilding locks, bridges, dredging and Duke of Edinburgh awards for young people.

How this cause brings people in the community together
It will be a great asset to both the local community and those visiting; a working canal is a wonderful tourist attraction and would bring benefits to the local economy as well as a place for recreation, providing opportunities for both young and old alike to get involved and improve their health and happiness, particularly when doctors are actively prescribing canal walks to combat depression.
