We are currently fundraising to replace our ageing roof, to ensure Scouting can continue in Chopwell for years to come.
About this cause
1st Chopwell Scout Group currently offers fun, challenge and adventure to over 50 young people aged between 6 & 14 from the Chopwell / Blackhall Mill / Rowlands Gill & High Spen areas of Gateshead. We have been providing this opportunity for over 80 years. Members have a chance to take part in weekly meetings and outside activities including camping, walking, climbing, zorbing, sailing and much more! We enable them to develop there own skills and grow to become empowering young people of the future.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Over the last few years, our Scout hut roof has seen some damage take place due to wind and criminal damage. We now want to fix up our roof to enable Scouting to continue for years to come. Our HQ also benefits the local community as we hold monthly coffee mornings where some of the older generation come together for a chat and a coffee. Our young people engage with the wider community during these events. The local church has also used our HQ as a base for their annual summer fayre, whilst the wider Scouting community (over 200 members) often use our HQ as a base when there are night events taking place in Chopwell Wood. Our project to fix our roof will benefit not only the local community, but the young people them selves.
