About this cause
Jubilee Money Advice is a totally free debt advice project, run by volunteers from City Church Sheffield in conjunction with Community Money Advice and AdviceUK. We help anyone struggling with unmanageable personal debt, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, disability or religion. We help clients work out the extent of their debt problems, identify solutions and support them in making their chosen option a reality. Many of our clients live in the S5 area of Sheffield, and often have longstanding health issues that have contributed to things getting out of control in the first place. We want to help our clients take control of their situation, getting free on crippling debt, and making a fresh start in life.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Freedom for personal debt can give people a radical fresh start. It is often a hidden problem, and is closely associated with mental ill-health and family breakdown. Our team work rent space in Shirecliffe Community Centre (a separate charity) and offer one-to-one support, advice, guidance and advocacy. We are friendly and non-judgmental. We would love to help more people. As their are lots of rules and regulations about who can give debt advice, it takes a lot of time, money and effort to train new volunteers and get them up and running. Your support could help that become reality - and see more local people make a fresh start.
