About this cause
First Step supports families of babies and young children with special needs and/or disabilities, who often arrive at First Step in crisis and not knowing which way to turn. Established over 32 years ago, First Step provides a specialist, safe, secure and non-judgemental environment where families are supported and empowered to navigate what can often be a long and difficult journey ahead.
How this cause brings people in the community together
First Step is rooted in the community, and has many committed volunteers and supporters who are actively engaged with the work of the charity. This in turn means that those supported feel part of something much bigger which creates a feeling of being valued and accepted by the wider community. It is the generosity of the community that has mainly funded First Step for over 32 years.
