Riding for the Disabled Abingdon Group
People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
We would like to give local children suffering from a life-restricting disability the opportunity to experience the freedom and comfort afforded by horse riding and therapy.
About this cause
We're a group who want to enrich the lives of people who suffer a disability through therapy and fun afforded by horse riding and horsemanship. Our participants suffer life-limiting physical conditions such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, injury, spina bifida, or Down's syndrome. Others may find problems caused by autism, ADHD or Asperger's syndrome. Many suffer from isolation and low self-esteem.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Many of our beneficiaries experience isolation, which can be physical and/or emotional. Our activities bring people together through working in groups with an instructor. Once on a horse, it is often difficult to see a disability. Riders are encouraged to set targets and join in events to bring success and build confidence. Whole families become involved and feel the positive impact.
