My Sisters Place
People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
Mothers who access our service will understand the impact of domestic abuse on their children and learn more about the therapeutic journey their children are beginning, and how they can support this.

About this cause
We improve the lives of families affected by domestic abuse, by providing needs-led and trauma-informed practical, emotional and therapeutic support. Middlesbrough has high rates of domestic abuse; we receive over 1,600 referrals every year working tirelessly to keep women and children safe and free from abuse. Our Me Time gives children a safe space for them to be children again, and is so important.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Domestic abuse is everyone’s problem and it is only by getting the whole community involved in addressing this, that real change can occur. Many of our clients identified direct support for their children as key to coping and recovering from the impact domestic abuse has on them as survivors. This project will aid recovery of mum and child and be felt widely: health, work, education, neighbours.
