About the Project
Our lovely 11th century church is the only remaining large building in the village and therefore we wish to incorporate a community space with a kitchen and toilet facilities. The floor throughout the building will be levelled so that everyone - mums with pushchairs and people in wheelchairs - has access. We hope that it will be used by all residents as well as cyclists and walking groups as they pass through the village on the Staffs Way. A village survey showed that residents wished to have 'flix in the stix', Moms & Toddlers groups, Knit & Natter afternoons as well as holding coffee mornings, concerts and historic talks. All of these activities would be in addition to all the normal services of worship - special services include Carols by Candlelight and Remembrance Day Service.
About the Charity
Lapley is a small village which no longer has a pub so there is nowhere for residents to meet. The bus service has been severely reduced for so many villagers, especially older people, who feel very isolated. We are therefore fund-raising so that our church, the only large building left, can have a community space as well as being a place for worship. At present the church has no kitchen or toilet facilities so our main aim is to provide these together with space for regular events for villagers of all ages. We feel that this project would enhance the lives of all villagers and therefore ask that it is given due consideration.
