People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing

We will pay a support worker to develop our 11 memory lane groups for people with dementia and their carers. Our support enables people with dementia and their carers to continue to live well.

About this cause

Prama supports older people and carers with a variety of community-based activities across Bournemouth, Poole and east Dorset. We provide: 11 support groups for people living with dementia; 6 carers’ support groups; 19 social activity groups; 5 fitness groups; 2 gardening groups; 2 music groups; 8 craft groups (2 groups involve people with dementia); 2 IT support groups; and telephone befriending.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The worker will engage with communities to develop a programme of additional support, including supporting people, community groups and businesses to become dementia friends. A dementia friend is somebody that learns about dementia so that they know how to help people with dementia. The community is then able to support people with dementia to live at home, for longer, with their loved ones.
