About this cause

Pete's Dragons provides range of support to people and families affected by suicide within Devon. Working closely with Devon and Cornwall constabulary we provide timely and appropriate advice in a bespoke and flexible way. From resource packs to face-to-face, telephone and email support tackling issues such as how to communicate the death to others, how to handle press and the media, dealing with inquests and probate, getting financial help and joining up the services offered by partner agencies to best meet the needs of the family. Users of this service can also take advantage of a range of complimentary therapies provided in our therapy room, grief recovery courses and respite in our seaside holiday home.

How this cause brings people in the community together

There are approximately 86 deaths by suicide in Devon per year, which leave between 1,720 and 5,160 people within the local community significantly affected to the extent that daily life is disrupted by mental or physical health problems. Timely and appropriate support and advice is essential to both assist with practical issues which are unique to this type of death but also lower health risks and aid recovery. Each set of circumstances is unique as is each individual affected and that is why it is essential that we are able to offer a wide range of support services. In addition to our current services we would like to be able to offer group mindfulness, yoga, life- coaching and wellbeing for both adults and children.
