Bishop's Castle Railway Society
Mental wellbeing
We plan to provide an opportunity for local people to drop in, have a chat over a cuppa and some cake and be encouraged to join the volunteer teams doing DIY, or stewarding on open days.
About this cause
We're a group who want to provide a railway museum and visitor centre in the newly restored last remaining railway building in Bishop's Castle. This will provide volunteer opportunities, especially, but not exclusively, to older men, who may feel isolated and lonely due to retirement, bereavement or simply living alone. Men can sometimes find it harder to socialise without a connection to a hobby.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The project will help build relationships across communities to help reduce loneliness by offering a secure (both Covid and personal) venue and space to learn skills, contribute to an existing worthwhile project and meet others in similar situations. This will be organised on a regular basis.
