Laptops 4 Schools (Turton Rotary Club)
People: Supporting young people to fulfil their potential
We wish to collect unwanted laptops from members of the public. Then, with our IT partner, securely erase the data, upgrade them and distribute free-of-charge to disadvantaged children via schools.
About this cause
We're a rotary club running a project called Laptops4Schools with the aim to close the digital divide that exists between children who have access to a laptop and those that do not. We collect donated recycled laptop computers and give them to school children. This tackles the inadvertent exclusion of many children from the full range of their school studies and helps them unlock their true potential.
How this cause brings people in the community together
We are inviting the community to dig out their old, dusty, unwanted laptops and donate them for reuse, saving them from landfill and giving the next generation a sound start in life through better access to online learning. Recycling unwanted laptops makes good environmental sense, and if we can also use them to help school children tackle their school studies, we have achieved a win-win.
