Bentham Allotments Association
Access to food
We aim to create two community growing plots, bringing people together to learn how to produce food for themselves and others, and improving mental and physical wellbeing for everyone involved.
About this cause
Bentham Allotments Association was set up during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown in response to a need identified within Bentham for people to be able to grow their own food to support emotional, mental and physical health and therefore overall wellbeing. The site opened in March 21 and is already fully tenanted. Our focus on education, health and the environment is at the core of everything we do.
How this cause brings people in the community together
This project is about extending the reach of our allotments site by creating a space to benefit the less able, and educate people regardless of age or background about the benefits of growing food. Our project will combat loneliness and social isolation, promote a feeling of ownership, and create stronger community development relationships. Ultimately it will build a more resilient community.
