Community Action:MK wants to raise funds to extend the community car service project to other areas in and around Milton Keynes next year.
About this cause
Community Action: MK answers enquiries for and about the voluntary and community sector in Milton Keynes. We provide information about all aspects of running a voluntary or community group, and can signpost you to funding, governance, other support and information. We provide information about the city’s growth, and support the new communities moving into the city. We also work in local Communities supporting local people to take action in their community. Community Action:MK also runs a Community Car Service working with volunteer drivers. We provide safe and reliable transportation for vulnerable members of the community in order to help them access a range of medical services or social care visits. In the past year we have provided over 700 journeys for 60+ passengers.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The Community Car Service provides safe and reliable transportation for vulnerable members of the community in order to help them access a range of medical services or social care visits. Since September 2015 we have recruited 17 volunteer drivers with a core of 8 drivers, registered 60+ passengers and have undertaken 700+ journeys. Most of our passengers are elderly, some have disabilities and others have learning disabilities, social anxiety/mental health issues or struggle to use public transport. The majority of our journeys are health related going to doctor surgeries and local hospitals including Milton Keynes, Stoke Mandeville and Northampton. We are always looking for more volunteer drivers to support the service and more passengers so if you are interested please get in touch!
