About this cause

At Woodcraft Folk we believe passionately in equality and co-operation – everyone is welcome to join. We are run wholly by volunteers. Young people meet in one of our weekly group nights in Hanwell and South Ealing to learn about big ideas through fun activities like singing, playing, craft and debating. Our aim is to have great fun, but also to try and develop children’s self-confidence and build their awareness of society around them. Through our activities, outings and camps we help our members understand important issues like the environment, world debt and global conflict and, in recent years, we have focused on sustainable development. By encouraging children to think, we hope they will help build a peaceful, fairer world.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Children and young people, from cities need safe places to play, close to nature and with the freedom to learn from experience. We hold weekend camps, from May to September and one week long one in August. Throughout our extensive experience of working with children, 40+ years, we have seen children from all different backgrounds flourish in an outdoor environment. Parents feedback has been very positive, one small example, a five year old who had never spent time away from his parents came along and slept under canvas. His parents were amazed and said consequently, he was much more confident at school.
