About this cause
The Welcome Centre is one of the largest food banks in the north of England supporting local people in financial crisis. This may be due to job loss, debt and eviction, benefits issues, homelessness, domestic violence, substance misuse, and physical and mental health problems. Our aim is to improve the quality of life of those experiencing extreme disadvantage by providing practical support.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The Welcome Centre remained open throughout lockdown, with a delivery service. Without our food bank, hundreds of people would have been without food. We've strong partnerships with more than 100 local agencies as well as Kirklees Council and Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing. These partnerships ensure clients receive essentials as well as advice, support and access to additional services.
