About this cause
Dunston Family Church in Teams Life Centre operate as an active community centre for the Teams and surrounding areas. We identified various needs in the community and from this, put in place a wide range of activities ranging from 3 youth clubs per week, aged 4-16, regular volunteer meetings, keep fit classes, coffee mornings, ladies groups, musical drop in café sessions for the local people, family fun days, mental health well-being sessions, community choirs, family learning sessions and volunteer charity shop, just to name a few. Our aim is to raise aspirations and help to identify community needs, responding to local people sensitively and devising attractive projects that they can take part in, encouraging a positive well-being and working towards a better quality of life.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The grant will help us sustain and develop our Over the Edge mental health well-being music project. The group supports and tackles the affects of mental health issues, low self esteem and isolation through bringing suffers together. We use music as a tool through discussions, song writing, playing musical instruments and singing as an outlet to express themselves. raising feelings in a positive and inclusive way, where normally they would be dealing with it by themselves. We then use our music as a tool to share positive mental health within our local area through taking part in community festivals, mental health events and community activities. In turn raising and promoting a positive well-being through the benefits of people enjoying and engaging in something that lifts their spirit.
