About this cause

The Briardale Community Centre was established in 1999 to benefit the residents of Blyth Valley our main areas are Cowpen and Kitty Brewster. Over the past 16 years the centre has gained a reputation as a Community Development Organisation with experience in managing community buildings and delivering service to our local community. The centres primary activities include Training, Education, Skills Development, Health and Wellbeing. Supported by Youth Groups, IT Clubs, Community Cafe, Foodbank, Growing Scheme, Woodworking Shop, Craft Hub, Craft Shop, Orchard and Woodland Area. We set out to improve the quality of life for local residents who are affected by poverty and disadvantaged we address the root cause by developing a community enterprises offering a structured work environment.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The three main out door buildings Wood Shop this is a skills unit where local people learn wood work joinery and carpentry we manufacture garden furniture, planters and up cycle household goods. Craft Shop this is a training shop for local residents to gain skills in customer care and retail. Local craft people display and sell there work through the shop and we take a commission Craft Hub local residents learn craft skills in a small equipped work room learning about enterprise and manufacture and confidence building. We support long term unemployed, Lone Parents, Ex Offenders, Retired Residents and young people. This approach develops skills,confidence and motivation of beneficiaries to actively engage in the labour market providing a range of goods and services to meet local needs
