About this cause
Food4Families is a community food growing project set up by Reading International Solidarity Centre (RISC) in 2010 to support people from deprived areas in Reading to grow and eat fresh, healthy produce. We have created more than 25 gardens in partnership with local people, schools and Reading College, community associations, statutory bodies, faith groups and corporates, engaging thousands of participants. Veg4Reading is an offshoot project responding to coronavirus needs.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our project will directly involve people from the neighbourhoods of five community gardens in the most deprived areas of Reading, refugees and minority groups and community groups assisting vulnerable people with emergency food distribution. We will have volunteers from various backgrounds, including corporate groups, and members of the Reading Food Growing Network and allotment groups.
